Eszter Kapitany, In the city, 2014

I use photos to draw. I take them, mostly in Budapest, or I choose a photo I took years ago somewhere I was traveling. Places and spaces are the base for “the little story” I fantasize into them. Lets say, I am kind of a person who is walking around in the city, but instead of walking in real reality I regret it and through my drawn pictures I add different kinds of emotions, such as: fear, smybols of fear, anxiety !, lonelyness, imagined characters. They all supposed to present a question mark: what is your, what is my reality. So I end up at some ironic, surrealistic place in the city or in my mind, where I basically spend my whole life. Also: reality (what is it at all) very often doesnt interest me, I see it, obviously – I took the photo of a building or a place. And I cant live with that just like that, so I add something, sometimes a very little thing which puts the whole scene into a fantasy level, which means: anything could happen, nothing real matters anymore.
